  • Review: I bought this to replace my off-brand LCD, and to have a Better monitor designed for photo editing, and it's the BEST purchase I've made in a while.

You can see this thing accurately from ANY ANGLE, and the colors are rich, solid and exact!!!

It is built very solidly too....couldn't be happier!!!

Fast refresh rate, excellent matte-like screen, and PERFECT after calibration!!

It's a little bright for photo editing right out of the box, but other than that, I will buy another IF this one ever dies!!!

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

  • Review: I've owned my 2209WA for about 10 months now, and I have loved every minute of it. This is the first monitor that allowed me to finally retire my trusty 50 lb Sony Trinitron after holding out on the LCD revolution. I discovered the difference between the various LCD panel types after purchasing an well-reviewed LCD display (from a competitor), only to discover the TN panel's terrible color reproduction, 6-bit posterization, and vertical viewing angle problems*. The 2209WA suffers from none of these problems.

As a photographer, I enjoy the faithful representation of color and other image details. A common problem I've found (even with other Dell panels) is that they often over-sharpen the incoming image without any option to disable, but the 2209WA displays a faithful representation of the pixels without attempting to "enhance" the picture. Light greys are distinct from white, and dark greys are distinct from black. Gradients are smooth and non-posterized. As an FPS gamer and dabbling video editor, I never notice ghosting or trails. TN panels are traditionally considered the "fastest" panels, but this e-IPS panel is plenty fast for viewing videos and playing games of any sort.

    For settings, I suggest Brightness = 50, Contrast = 75, Color preset mode = Standard, Sharpness = 50, Dynamic contrast = off.

*On many LCD panels, colors and contrast change from the top to the bottom of the screen depending on the viewer's position. Google "lagom lcd viewing angle test" to see how your LCD panel responds to vertical movement, and try this test on several different panel types, and on a CRT for reference. On the 2209WA this image is perfectly consistent from top to bottom (and on all other IPS displays, I assume).

  • Great monitor for photo editing

  • Review: I am serious about my photography/hobby/small business , but by no means am I a computer savvy person. My small screen on my Mac Book wasn't adequate for the work I wanted to do on my photos, so I started looking around for a larger one that would do the trick for a price much lower than the large Apple monitor. After doing some research, I found that I wanted to get one with IPS LCD technology (http://www.robertstch.com/blog/?p=31) [...]and even though this is only a 22 inch (diagonal) screen, it was perfect for what I needed. I also read reviews that a matte finish was better for editing than a glossy screen (although there's LOTS of discussion about that!), so since this has a matte finish, it seemed right.

I got it for an incredible price from Amazon, and it arrived without a scratch. It was very easy to set up, although I had to buy a Mini Display Port to DVI adaptor (from Best Buy) in order to allow the Mac Book to speak to the monitor.

I'm very pleased with the monitor so far. I'm not a pro, but it works for me.

  • It is NOT TN-Panel

  • Review: In a word:

    IT IS NOT a TN-PANEL!!!!!

What a huge difference from the crap TN-Panel monitor, which manufacture deliberately hide in the specification too shy to tell they monitors are TN-Panel.
